So how does one even start? Is there like a web page to download python shit? Or is this just shit that's naturally built into my system and I should just know already?. I'm using Fedora 44 I think if that helps
yeah im p sure you install python or python3 via the fedora package manager to start. Then you create a script, foo.py or something. In there you put the actual code. When that looks good, you can run it by going >python3 /path/to/foo.py additional libs can be a bit of headache with python specifically, but most use the helper tool pip, which can also be installed through the package manager if im off on anything here lmk, working from inference and memory as im maining nixos atm, where the install process is a bit different :P |

No, I specifically don't like targeted advertising because it's invasive. If it was an individual following you around learning what you do and what you like/want, you could charge them with stalking. But because it's not just one person, it's a multi-billion dollar company working for a privacy invading industry, it's suddenly OK? Go fuck yourself. |

It was either that or suddenly be the slowest person at work, which eventually gets you canned. turns out, you can just refuse to do so and you'll still be just as fast as everyone else (source: me). Turns out that you'll actually do the same amount of work and you don't have to babysit a robot all day long losing your mind.
I know for a fact that I am not as fast as this. I had it build out entire page flows and pull together Vue components while connected to Figma’s MCP, and it was done in 1 hour. Tests, types, services, everything. I can’t compete with my own AI flow. I had it finishing 5-6 Jira tickets in one go. Refusing also has its own caveats. Like painting a target on my back for layoffs. |

I know, most normal softwares requires 3 or 15 on some bloated softwares, but the simplest python softwares requires at least 10 or 20 on the bigger one and I've seen some go up to 40 (maybe perl too but no one use it nowadays so I don't count it)
Yeah, I reflected on your comment for a bit and I can see what you're saying. All software uses dependencies, but how they are shipped is different for a lot of languages. If we take an extreme example, Go has a lot of the same microdependencies that Python, JS, etc. have, (probably a lot more than Python even), but since programs are usually compiled into a standalone binary, you never think about them as a user. Interpreted languages on the other hand tend to not do this because they're not compiled, and when you're installing a dependency, you're often installing the source code itself, rather than a shared library or .jar like you would in C++ or Java. A lot of people do complain about virtual environments though, and while I don't personally have a problem with them, I do wonder why nobody uses bundlers in Python. It seems that something like this already exists, but it doesn't seem to be widely adopted or used for all the complaints I hear about virtual environments and such. |

Init needs to do system logging when you want to collect it from the daemons stdout, which is the logical place to collect it from. Havin apps handle their own log files is a bad time at best and dangerous at worst.
You are correct ,but again you can just send it to syslog. Just one example of the overwhelming scope creep of systemd. |

Nah, personalized advertising is the slimy salesperson who pretends to be your best friend from back in high school. It's acting like there's a very close personal relationship using privileged information. If it were a human, it would be the creepiest and most uncomfortable conversation you could ever have. |

Rust is the easiest programming language to learn. Granted, I'm autistic, but still. I found it far more intuitive than JavaScript or Python. Bonus: HTML and JavaScript are evil and I hate webpages that use it. Thats pretty much all of them, to be fair, but markdown websites do exist and I love them
Rust and C are very similar so I'm not going to argue with that the primary difference is safe memory in rust, and more embedded hardware support in C, which depends entirely if you plan on building embedded systems. On a fundamental, computer architecture/assembly/ALU level, I've never understood how python works asynchronously; how is it able to run code blocks in a non-sequential paradigm. |

What makes you think C++ is awful?
The intention of C++ was to be C's replacement by adding objects into the programming language while also maintaining the fast compilation and runtime that came with C. In the end it resulted in longer compilation and runtime times (from the millisecond scale to seconds scale), which made it generally unappealing for embedded systems. On a production code standpoint, if were comparing it to something like python, it is debatable, but there's just a large learning curve associated with the language that could otherwise be avoided with a different OOP language. By trying to accomplish everything, it fails to implement everything well to compete with other languages. |

Part of problem is that being able to keep a copy of a game indefinitely doesn't mean you "own" it. You just have a (revokable) license to use it within the conditions of the license, as with almost all software you use and media you consume. When companies say you don't own games, they mean this: you've never owned games you bought. |

What is usually the suggested "easiest" to learn language? I've always wanted to code well since I was a young kid and recently oldest kid accidentally got me into playing around with LLM and it orchestrated a few little stupid projects that were just basically to make open code more customized most of the time. I'd really like to actually do it myself and know what was going on better. Any sug...
Honestly if you're starting from scratch, I'd say learn rust. It's not that hard if it's your first language because you don't have to unlearn stuffs from other languages. Plus the compilation errors will really teach you what you did wrong how to fix things. And using clippy, it'll tell you how to do things better and remove redundancies. C is easy to learn in terms of syntax, but it's hard to write correct code as the program gets more complex. Python is easy to write but doesn't teach you much. I find rust as easy to write as python, but c like speed. |

The stalker is trying to intimidate or harass me for their own personal ends. People are bad, companies are in for profit. The company will try and sell me more toilet paper because they know I have diarrhea. The multimillion dollar corporation is spying on me to make line go up. The thing people actually get angry about is the predictive ad which feel like it removes their autonomy. The thing people forget when they get an personalised ad is that they are not the main character. Their behaviour is similar to others and the in the end the feeling that actions, even benign ones, can be predicted gets people upset. It's like the guy today complaining that his TV is always listening to him. Yes, because Samsung can make a few cents for putting a Domino's ad on the TV when the word pizza is said. Oh but that means someone could access hundreds of thousands of hours of recordings! Of people talking in front of their TV. Of Hundreds of thousands of people. Oh but someone could access the recordings of my voice, determine a close family member, make a voice clone and get them to give them money! I dunno, romance scammers seem to do just fine and that even works on people with 50 year old TVs.
I prefer to refer to it as contributing to the PornHub Year in Review. |

Yeah if you check my recent comment history you’ll see me arguing with some people around making targeted advertising illegal or at least more heavily regulated. I tried to share what I know and didn’t get any constructive feedback. I like independent web publishers vs social platforms, sorry that’s how they get paid for the most part 🤷 |

It's painful to learn and set up. Looking at other people's code is horrifying. I looked at a portion of Godot code and the amount of headers defined is actually retarded. A lot of the c++ function names are a remnant of not well thought out ideas. It's also normal to have thousands of lines of code for a small portion of a small project?? The only way I see it being used is through vibe coding. You can't tell me it's easier to look at someone's C++ than their Python project. |

Negative, it is the farther reaching effects of this data-mining hellscape that bothers me. It's not a matter of my autonomy being removed, it's a matter of privacy. Full stop. This is the very first time in human history where people's lives aren't private. Your attention is a commodity traded on the open market, whether you want to be or not. And that's the part I have a problem with. Today, it's being too aggressive marketing to pregnant teens. You said it yourself, the line must go up. It's not just about charging fair prices for goods and services, it's about separating people from as much money as possible, by any means necessary. Data aggregation can be weaponized against you. How many times do you think people struggling to make ends meet get shown ads for predatory loans? Or gambling addicts getting shown sports betting ads?
In the days of AI chatbots, is this really a far fetched idea? After all, the line must go up. |

I've talked about it before, but I really hate PDFs. Specifically the things PDFs are used for. If you aren't planning to print something and will only ever look at it on a screen, HTML is better. It's so frustrating when you're going to a website, you know, a thing that serves content in HTML, and then some piece of information is in a PDF. |

There is no best way to start. Start with what is fun and chase what is fun. A lot of very bad advice is given about supposed ways to start learning programming that can poison your experience (like people say garbage collected languages are bad because you won't "appreciate" manual memory management), but that's all bullshit. Learning any language will make you better at learning other languages. I started with Java, I think it's fine for starting. I think Python is a great way to start because there's a bunch of content for getting started with it. But ultimately, start with whatever you find fun enough to keep you interested and pushing through. |

I’d say a niche subset of people have legitimate complaints now that will be inevitably turn out to be worse for more people in that 10yr timeline.
Motivated Trailblazers -> Second Wave -> Everyone Else. You could try and gatekeep or segregate but yeah I think you’re right, if you open something up to everyone then you get… everyone lol.
Ultimately yes, but that’s a distinction without a difference imo. Being invasive wouldn’t bother anyone either if there is no follow-up action. Predictions leading to repercussions or manipulation is the follow-up action no one wants. If there were some magic button that assured me the data they gathered was strictly used (by them) to better sell me their product I’d just consider it the cost of the free internet. Nowadays though, there’s simply no telling where that data will end up or what it will be used for; businesses, data brokers, insurance companies, political think tanks, government agencies, etc. None of those entities were there for the original “transaction”, nor are they really even incentivized to keep my data private or secure. Hell, 99% of the time I don’t even know they exist, but I’m supposed to be ok with the whole setup because they flash a shiny widget at me every once in awhile? |

We need to stop evaluating AI based on what it is sold as by the bro-vestor. It is not intelligence and never will be. It's an tools that when use in the correct context and under good guidance, is a fantastic productivity enhancer. But it's not a Hal9000, or an Andromeda. Don't expect it to be a horse, when it is clearly a car. I have not had an AI hallucinate on me in months. Because I always make sure it has a good brief and reference info and that the context window is not exceeded, and that if the context window does get exceeded, that it re-grounds itself on the reference information and asks for human guidance. AI hallucinations are mostly operator error these days, either using it incorrectly, not giving it sufficient guidance or asking it to do things it's not suitable for. For example, you would never want to use AI when your inputs and outputs have predictable criteria. You would pass those through a normal logic tree. Where an AI would be suitable is trying to Triage situations where the logic gets an unhandled use case. It would evaluate the inputs and consider if any of the outputs sufficiently matched the inputs criteria. If it can't it marks it as a genuine exception. But a human still needs to give it the correct guiding criteria. |

I disagree
I agree It shouldn't require a loophole to use Windows without a Microsoft account. Cloud hosting the bitlocker key does remove a lot of the security benefit in the first place. But I also recognize if you're going to enable it by default, you have to automatically store it somewhere since most people will not save it themselves. But Microsoft should not be able to access the keys either, they should be fully encrypted without the users password. |
