Zack Polanski is the leader of the Green Party in the UK. He said he will not overturn a motion that declares Zionism a form of racism. Party members passed the motion at conference this month. The vote was 1,022 to 813.

The motion says Zionism is an ideology supporting an ethnonationalist Jewish state in historic Palestine. And it says this is to the exclusion or domination of the non-Jewish population.

Polanski said he respects the democratic will of the members. He wants to amend it in 2028. But party rules say a conference vote is policy for two years. He said the practical application of Zionism is racist. He said: "I think whats controversial is that 75,000 Palestinians have been murdered in the last few years." When asked if Israel has a right to exist, he said he does not think any state has a right to exist under international law.

There is a big backlash. The Board of Deputies of British Jews said the party platform erases Jewish identity. Labour said it will end power-sharing agreements with the Greens on local councils. Prime Minister Andy Burnham called the motion antisemitic. But Polanski said he isnt sorry at all.
