ROFL Given the vibe-coded disaster of the Epic Store on Linux, he has bigger things to be concerned about. Like fixing his own mess. By hand, with actual humans programming and resolving issues. Catching a vibe won't save Epic, real human effort will. What a loser.

Age ratings tell parents what’s in a game so they can make informed decisions for their kids. These AI statements are just as partisan as mandatory political essays or forcing developers to list their voting history to drive cancel campaigns and public struggle sessions.

Absolutely fuck this fucking guy.

He calls it an "anti-technology smear campaign", and claims that it's akin to Valve forcing developers to list their political affiliation, i.e. whether they vote Republican or Democrat

Billionaires and false equivalencies, name a more iconic duo

I mean, if we're going to compare apples and oranges, how about with a metaphor that makes sense? Like how if you sell food you have to list the ingredients used

Does everyone remember how Steam banned NFT games and Epic allowed them and how that absolutely catapulted them into success over their competitor? ... no?

OK, well, but maybe this time?

I don't care if a game is made with AI as long as it's good. I also don't care if there's a disclosure so others can make their own decision. Tim is an idiot.

It's a great "better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool than to talk and remove all doubt" moment. He can't help himself, it's like the more power and money someone has, the more time they have to imagine how they're victims.

But I like to know who is an awful person so I can avoid them, so thanks Tim.

Now you just made me think that at some point, there's going to need to be a The Jungle for gaming. There's going to be some kind of exposé on different major game developers and how they use AI and other shitty practices to make the most addicting games.

Since when the fuck has AI been partisian? It sounds like he's trying to make it partisian. In reality, everyone hates the data centers. The only thing that's partisan-adjacent is that the Trump administration (Trump specifically) loves it, but that's just because he's a boomer and boomers, for some reason I do not yet understand, tend to like the shitty photo/video generative AI more than others.

If I was at Tencent, Sony or whatever, I’d take his phone away. The sheer toxicity of this one person is, err, unreal, and just shutting him up would eliminate so much drama.

Him complaining is all the proof we need that even he doesn't believe in his "fight".

Because he wants to be able to reap money from the ocean of slop games but he doesn't want his store to be the only one trying to hide the sloppiness of it.

Hey asshole, you've got your own store, and you can do whatever you want with it. But no, you can't expect to drag your competition with you at rock bottom because you think being better than you is unfair.

At this stage of AI advancements and industry adoption, I believe most newly released games that have opted to not disclose the use of AI are lying. And steam's choice of what constitutes AI contributions are misleading, most people don't know that not having an AI disclosure doesn't mean no AI use What-so-ever. As the article states AI code doesn't need to be disclosed, which is the component of the game that has seen the the most migration towards AI.

I don't know what role that AI disclosure plays anymore. especially when steam itself doesn't verify publishers claims. I think it's there just to please steam fans and maintain that cool kid aura.

Valve is the big meanie that continues to give their customers more value, and they heavily invest in research and development which benefits the consumer. Steam link, steam controller, steam deck, Proton.... all of these were part of Valve's sinister plan to continue serving customers.

This concept stands in the way of Epic's business model, which does not include giving value to customers, they just see games as a commodity like wheat.

Bf6 doesn't disclose AI usage and its clear its used on the cosmetics including paid skins

The patches are also janky which makes people think at least some code is also ai generated

Most editors if not all support AI and include it so its going to be very hard to say noone uses it during development anymore.

But clearly difference between responsible use and slop.

Remember editor's have had Intelisense and other similar functions for decades

Edit: for the down voters care to comment?

Do you think bf6 isn't using any AI?

Do you think there are no valid use cases for AI?

People like this have two reasons to make it partisan:

  1. It's a way for them to stay delusionally self-victimized since "AI would be a total success if it weren't for that group of haters" and it's convenient to make the haters the political out-group, since typically these people already view themselves as tragically oppressed politically (while somehow having all of the power and being the only oppressors themselves).
  2. If they succeed in making it partisan, that means they gain about 30% of the population as supporters via political team sports, versus 90% bipartisan hate right now.

I think the time has come to divorce ourselves from content that can't have its provenance proven.

Truthfully I rather like the idea of having a small but very heavily documented and curated collection of media than the tidal wave of 'content' we have now.

It may take longer to get stuff but when you have something you can have all of the information about how it was made. Personally I think that would be much more fun.

I think ol Tim had a lot of slop in the pipeline and this will force him to delay everything due to quality control so there aren't any six fingers and deformed faces in the background so he won't be able to release a "new" slop game every two months but considering how much of an asshole he is he still might go for it and just take the backlash.

Valve understands what the customer wants, Epic simply does not.

Unless it somehow has changed in recent years Sweeney still owns the majority of the company. Other investors can complain all they want but Sweeney gets the final word and if he wants to continue being the Elon Musk (not the 2020s ketamine fried Musk but the 2010s main character syndrome and savior complex Musk) of gaming he can tell the other investors to suck it.

He is a great example of CEOs who would help their company image more if they never made themselves known.

More he talks the more insufferable he comes off and in return so does the company.

If it weren't for how he chose to make his personality so prominent, Epic would probably not be as hated among PC gamers.

AI disclosures should go the route of it being voluntary like how foods can choose to promote they are organic, dont use pesticides, no food coloring, etc.

Same should go for AI with a sort of Nintendo seal of quality where games can choose to say no AI generated assets, etc. It can turn into a way to promote themselves to stand out from those who don't say anything.

You either get ousted a gaming hero or stay on the board long enough to become the CEO villain.

I think only Croteam has managed to exist as long as they have without going evil or being bought out, but they've never quite been successful enough for that to happen.
