There’s shitloads of non-english spoken content and no way to filter/hide it. It’s only gettimg worse I’ve been disappointed so often, browsing Netflix and finding a show that looks good from the description, but then you start it and it’s in German or Swedish or something. Yuck. What a waste of a potentially good show.

You're on a .nl instance and complaining about shows being in German or Swedish!!

We've cancelled our Netflix subscription almost a year aggo and back then it was already getting faaaaar too boring.

Good shows that only get one or two seasons:
Oh great, thanks a lot assholes. Now I'm invested in these characters without any closure. <= it was like that all the time. Fuck that, I'm not paying for demos. Or big corpos that suck up to fascism.

We're cancelling this month. I realised I only watch one show. I have acquired the show and put it on jellyfin.

I cancelled Disney and Netflix. I sail the seas, however the kids/family do miss recommendations and discovery. Wonder if theres some way of exporting my plex watch data for recommendations.

If you use seerr along with the arr stack, you can actually explore all the new releases and back catalogue of the major platforms. Hook it up to usenet and for a couple of bucks a month and a little home server you have everything you need in probably max 10 minutes wait time.

I cancelled and went Jellyfin recently. High-five friend! It was the price hike and reality slop for me.

usenet server + usenet provider + an ember subscription all come to less than one streaming service

I go to netflix looking for particular titles, and watching them. I'm not browsing around it or anything.

I cancelled because they made this behavior less straightforward and easy.

Having a filter for shows by language spoken is something streaming sites should have but I don't see a reason the default settings should hide shows that still have subtitles in your native language. I strongly disagree that shows in languages you don't speak are "a waste of a potentially good show". If you read slowly or dislike reading when watching shows I understand why you have less inter...

Being deaf, I have to use subtitles anyways, so about half of what I watch on Netflix is non-English, and it's been great

I've gotten to the point that I just subscribe to whatever service for like a month of there's something I want to watch.

At the height of the pandemic I had like five services and realized that I was just opening an app, browsing, then opening the next and browsing ad nauseam.

I bought a few DVDs and Blu-rays for my background noise and can go to the library if I get real bored.

‘cause they’ve enshittified.

We went from cable cutting to piracy to streaming services that were relatively inexpensive and ad-free back to services that emulated cable - expensive and full of ads, so guess what’s next?

Maybe if they make Three Body Problem S2, 4 episodes, instead of 8, it will solve it. Or they could cancel Kaos again, or try running a washed up comedian, Im sure that will increase engagement. Actually, I think I want an Ad for my paid service, every 15 seconds. yeah. do that.

Oh but they added WWE shit and had it take up so much space I think they thought that I wanted it or something? Just like when they tried getting into mobile games before that.

How long before they start bragging about paying some billions for exclusive sporting access that I also don't gaf about but is extra shitty because the whole reason is to remove choice from those that do care about it, not provide any extra value.

It's getting harder to even find shit worth pirating so... Going outside?

I chose TTRPGs. Outside is still way too scare and full of way too many parking lots

Netflix and D+ inspired me to finally get my arr stack going and now for less than the cost of 1 Netflix subscription I am able to stream anything I want from my remote box. So thanks for that, I wouldn't be here flying my 🏴‍☠️ without their service getting so shitty and expensive that I went well out of my way to set this up and now I love it.

We need to revisit copyright laws. Life of the author plus 70 years just encourages people to make money off work they had nothing to do with. 15 years then free domain.

15 years max! I was thinking 5 lol

Hard to get invested when they're all 6 episode seasons, 2+ year breaks, and canceled after 2 or 3 seasons.

And at least one of those episodes is filler

15 years then free domain. That's what I always say. Weirdly, a lot of people who don't have anything copyrighted themselves argue for longer copyright.

I would argue this with "but what about franchises getting slopped up with content that doesn't fit the original narrative/characterizations?" But then I look at what Disney has done with Star wars and marvel and realize I don't really have leg to stand on.

No idea how many movies or TV shows you consume, but there's enough unseen by me to last me a decade as is.

I paid for a lifetime account to a private usenet server. Less than 1 year of any streaming service.
