Note: The article at some point mentions that mycelium-based composites – often called MBCs – are not yet strong enough to replace bricks or most plastic parts, and references a 2019 study about that. Since then, a lot of improvements took place. Of course there is room for more, but still this statement is not really accurate. For example:

Mushrooms could help replace plastics in new high-performance ultra-light materials, and this is the relevant 2023 study
