Lemmy solves this by having separate entries for links and image links (or uploads). I can't find a way to fix this in PieFed. There's a bunch of sites that the autofill fails on every time (CBC, Tyee, The Atlantic, NYT, WaPo just off the top of my head).

I'm loving PieFed but it's the one pain point, really. If I post those stories from Lemmy, they look fine. From PieFed they just don't look great. As a workaround I could link the image and not the article and include the story link in the post body, but then the article isn't clickable from the feed, which is kinda shitty too.

This would be a great feature request, could you crosspost this to !piefed_meta@piefed.social ?

I haven't switched to posting through my Piefed account, but this will probably prevent me from doing so. I manually set the thumbnail pretty often on Lemmy.

To deal with this permanently for Tyee, we need to find someone to contact about getting the platforms whitelisted in their Cloudflare settings. For CBC it's likely something similar.
