I'm excited to announce that Voyager now has experimental support for logging in with Piefed! You can try it out today on:

This will roll out to the official app stores and vger.app soon(tm), once I’m confident there are no major regressions. If you prefer not to switch to beta builds, just hang tight.

Please note that Piefed support is EXPERIMENTAL! There are still many things that don't work quite right, which I'm hoping to improve over the coming weeks.

The basics including scrolling home/all/local, viewing posts, blocking, commenting and voting should work well. However there are some known issues:

  • Can't sign up for a Piefed account in-app, only log in with an existing one
  • Subscribed communities list is empty (should be fixed soon!)
  • Inbox tab doesn't load
  • Comment search doesn't work
  • Profile upvoted/downvoted doesn't load
  • No moderation tools
  • Mark as read doesn't persist
  • Creating/editing posts is currently untested
  • ...probably a bunch of other stuff too, please let me know below!

Behind the scenes, this interoperability is made possible thanks to aeharding/threadiverse, a new library I am working on to normalize various threadiverse-software APIs. It's open source so any project use it, but it's under heavy development right now. What's cool about this is in the future, adding support for mbin, or whatever else is possible!

Again, feel free to try it out and let me know if there are any more issues to be documented and fixed.

I wasn't sure where to post this question/bug so I just thought I would piggy back here since it's specifically about Voyager and PieFed.ca.

So I have run into a lot of bugs with Voyager and piefed.ca specifically. My piefed.social account doesn't have any of these bugs. I created a github ticket but the developer said that it's because piefed.ca is running an out of date version or isn't up to date compared to piefed.social. I believe this was discussed briefly on their page when someone pinged you and I think we are running the latest up date of the server?

Here is an issue I posted on GitHub that said it's because the piefed.ca server is not up to date:
github issue tracker

And here is a thread I found from the developer demonstrating how the API isn't returning what it's supposed to:
piefed.ca API out of date

The developer demonstrated in that above link the 2 API end points and how piefed.ca is not returning anything:

I wonder if all the issues are related. I just wanted to bring it up in case there is some version that is more recent than what you had updated recently. For now I'm not really able to use Voyager with piefed.ca very well. The experience with piefed.social is nice though. So it would be great if this could somehow get resolved.

Just to summarize, the 2 main bugs I have seen that piefed.social doesn't have:

  • The feed only pulls down a set amount of posts and then runs out (this is describe in that github issue ticket)
  • The list of subscribed communities is empty (in my piefed.social account, it will display all my subscribed communities)
  • Is piefed.social running a more updated version than piefed.ca?

Okay, I think that's it. Thanks!

Thank for pinging me on my lemmy.ca account, I don't check this one as frequently. Also thanks for doing the digging here!

We were running the latest on the v1.0.x branch of piefed, but I've just us onto the main dev branch instead and that endpoint is working now: https://piefed.ca/api/alpha/federated_instances

I think we'll just need to live on dev for a bit while piefed is undergoing rapid development

Thanks for that!

Looks like I can see all my subscribed communities and the feed is continuous or behaves as expected now šŸ‘

However, it seems like upvoting/down voting throws errors. Not only in Voyager but in the web version as well. So it's a bit more unusable now šŸ˜‚

Rimu suggested it might be cloudflare so I've put a rule in place, can you try now please?

Looks like it's working again.

At a quick glance, everything seems to be working as expected. At least compared to piefed.social.

Thanks!

So I've been using this account for most of the day.

And I noticed that all the posts in my feed have no comments except those from other piefed.ca users.

This wasn't the case earlier. I'm not sure if this is related to the rule you made to deal with the CloudFlare issue. But I don't think there was this issue of seeing comments on new posts.

I am not having this problem on the same posts from my lemmy.ca or piefed.social accounts.

Also let me know if this is a good place to continue troubleshooting bugs or if I should be using something else like Matrix or a different place.

Thanks!

Currently using Voyager on my Piefed.ca account and seems to be working well. Honestly I don't seem much of a difference between my piefed account and my midwest.social account when viewed through Voyager, which is maybe the point?
