I’m moving soon and we’ve been using a Ring alarm and I no longer want that for obvious reasons. I do however like the functionality like mobile network, battery backup and remote access into it. Are there any off-the-shelf solutions anyone can recommend? Or am I better getting creative with Home Assistant and making sure it’s on my UPS? I’ve had a bit of a dig around, but searches are getting shitter and I’m not really coming up with anything that isn’t just a major US tech firm or cost hundreds. Any thoughts much welcomed. |

Not sure what hardware or ecosystem to recommend. But the nice local solution tied into Home Assistant is called Frigate. Maybe they have an online community with advice and product recommendations. It's a bit more involved, though. You definitely need a NAS (server) as well. But that will also be the component that keeps your data locked away from third parties and the government. |

Good idea there, I like the sound of that. Will investigate if my server is up to it. Any ideas for an alarm however? |

Theres Alarmo, where you can turn your Home Assistant sensors like cameras with person detection etc. into an alarm system. There are a lot of good sensors (motion, …) from Shelly for example. That’s what I’m going to try. |

I'm the wrong person to answer the question. I have a Home Assistant at home. But I don't really need alarm and video surveillance where I live and with my specific environment(?). So I'm more or less just tinkering around. I have some Ikea Zigbee motion sensors and window sensors to control light and thermostats. And I occasionally solder together some abominations of sensors... And thanks to Home Assistant, all of that can double as some sort of poor-man's alarm... Send a push notification when there's movement in the hallway without anyone present... Edit: As hopfi pointed out, there's of course more electronics manufacturers like Shelly as well... |

I wasn’t familiar with Alarmo but that looks interesting. Home Assistant is definitely going to be on site so that looks like an interesting project to investigate. I don’t need anything professional, just piece of mind when I’m out. I simple notification will take care of that. Hopefully my router etc and RPi on the UPS will deal with that. |

Always happy to tinker! I like that suggestion of Alarmo so might be onto a winner. Cheers man. |
