I use OnlyOffice for PDFs since it can set a default zoom level. LibreOffice can't, which it just stupid. I use LibreOffice for other stuff though.
That sounds like it should be relatively easy to implement. |

that's why you should use LibreOffice
As soon as Writer allows for a static standard scroll bar that doesn't auto-hide, I will. Call me irrational, but I cannot use an application based around scrolling with no real scroll bar. |

you can get a dedicated PDF viewer. I use my system PDF viewer and it works better than Adobe PDF I have been using for ages. This one actually makes reading PDFs bearable in the dark |

You can use "pg up" and "pg dn" to scroll. That's what I use and it also helps that my laptop has a touchscreen so I have no complaints about scrolling around my work in LibreOffice |

how does using docx lock users to microsoft? you can use onlyoffice to open and edit docx, ya dont need microsoft 365? pls explain to me guys
I've had a resume and a work report, both look good for me but totally broken in word. In my experience this means that the only way to be sure that your docx document is going to look right when shared with other people is to use MS Word, thereby locking us all in. |

LO also has the ribbon interface. But not by default.
It should be by default. |

but this is really only true and a problem for the end user, and you can't maintain an empire by refusing to collaborate with the larger userbase. that's how Adobe became an industry standard. They eventually claimed the larger userbase and businesses had to adapt or spend millions on training. |

I'm reading all these comments and I guess no one here works outside of academia or 100% IT companies. Reality out there is, that O365 is so deeply integrated with other business related software, that it's never going away. My company uses an ERP system that has maybe 200 customers worldwide. It is highly specialized for what we do. There is zero financial incentive for the manufacturer to sup...
The financial incentive would be open and standard document format to ease development and provide reliability |

To me, this would be like if VLC made an angry post about the evils of MP3 instead of just making a great player that can handle it (which they have). People still use VLC because we know that it will handle anything. Plus, they've kept the interface simple and intuitive, with most needed functions front and center, with lots of specialized features in menus and settings. LibreOffice is losing ...
You are missing the parts where MP3 is made by a company that makes a music player, publishes a spec to get recognized as an open standard, then starts diverging from this spec to prevent interoperability while of course still pretending to be an open format. Said company has also been convicted for anti-competitive practices, against the other spreadsheet software. Do you work with office workers? Tabbed design does not help them. I literally had a co worker ask me to if I could put spellcheck from the revision tab to the main one (or have it always showing). |

What they have is already done developing and they are flush in cash. A company that creates an ERP for a specialized industry does not care, unless a huge chunk of their customers demand a change all at once AND are ready to pay for it. I mean, I understand the idealism but this is just one of those "if everybody just..." situations that, imho, holds back open source solutions because their defendants look a bit excentric from established businesses' points of view. |

I'll try those keys. But when you have a document with multiple chapters, the actual buttons on a scroll bar that is full width and static are pretty critical. Not everyone uses it for TPS reports. And why the hell does a desktop app need a mobile scroll anyway. Jesus Fuck, just give me the extra 5 pixels you psychopath. |

5 pixels are a lot smaller than you might imagine especially if you run a 4k display 😅 |
