This image is compressed to hell. It's impossible to tell. We have very little detail to go off of. It's, at minimum, little makeup. It could be zero makeup, and it could also be edited. There's really just not enough to go off of

And in the same breath, you're saying she's the one personally attacking people. I think you've contradicted your own argument by name-calling.

I don't personally believe this is gender-specific, or subscribe to the idea that women are allowed to thirst over women publicly and men aren't, but we ought to all be on the same page that it's not okay to compare a woman to a cow, and so therefore no hypocrisy occurred. Just consider time and place, and be respectful, and it's fine.

I want to gently pose a counterargument that hopefully doesn't lead to folks assuming I'm scolding them. Remember that we're free to disagree with each other and, in the grand scheme of the universe, comments posted on a forum don't really matter.

So, if a person posted a picture of themselves in two dresses and inviting the comparison, it's absolutely okay for someone to say "I like the one on the left." That's great! However, I believe the context changes when it's a post where a man posts two pictures of someone who is not himself, in this case a woman, and says she ought to present herself in a specific way. Similarly, I believe that a post screenshotting the man's post to have some sort of discussion about his expressed beliefs changes the context as well. Your argument about the dresses, therefore, feels like a false equivalence.

I believe it is 100% okay for either gender to respectfully express attraction to women in the right time and place. It did feel a bit out of place here for men to express a normative statement about this woman when the entire point of the post was criticizing men doing that. YMMV on which commenters were doing this versus simply expressing a non-normative preference, but I felt like one or two may have unintentionally reproduced a (much less extreme) version of what the Jeremy was saying in the meme. It's okay to have preferences, and if people want to talk about the types of women they're attracted to, there are many other posts and communities where it would make more sense. But hey, it's a free internet and I'm not the thought police. Just a girl expressing an opinion.

Lol, I'm not disavowing feminism. Your comments won't change the mind of anyone who already had an egalitarian mindset - but in aggregate lots of comments like yours push away people on the fence, and entrench those who are already in a bad place.

If a woman made an equivalent comment about the before and after shots of a guy getting in shape or something it would rightfully not draw any ire. Jumping down the throat of every guy who expresses their preferences about women is not going to win us any allies.

Studio makeup is on a whole different level. If you saw an actor in stage makeup you would swear they are wearing a mask. It's designed to look good under harsh lighting. Btw Kate Mulgrew has a face full of freckles.

Thanks for your comment. Well put. I probably wasn't being completely fair. Certainly this thread is about a guy who feels entitled to women's bodies. Within it was a conversation about modern make-up aesthetic that likely would have been more appropriate in a separate thread.

It's quite likely some people used that as a cover for expressing a different type of entitlement to women's bodies. It is frustrating when a conversation topic gets used by bigots to sneak in their bigotry.

I could have been more fair in my approach, but I also find it frustrating when people sneak misandry through feminism. It's almost like someone used one conversation topic to sneak in their bigotry.

In modern times, one of the main groups still firmly in the grasp of patriarchal structures is men, and while the extremely rich men at the top certainly exploit everyone, most men are more oppressed by the patriarchy than they realise. Toxic masculine gender roles and expectations undermine their ability to find authentic joy even as they are permitted some power over others. We can't destroy the patriarchy until most people have found a way out of it and you can't get "most" people out when you leave half the population in.

In making the space for leftist men outside of the patriarchy, solidarity compels me to call out examples of blatant misandry like all other forms of bigotry. That makes a lot of people who were used to their bigotry going unchallenged uncomfortable, but that's a small price to pay.
