I wonder if fantasy could have negative influences; namely, by numbing pain, taking away the spark of action.

This takes me back to Becky Chambers and her really wonderful works of fiction. I love reading her stuff, but I think the effect it has on me might be less than great. Those fantasies are, in themselves, a spark of awareness, in that they open a window into what the world could be like, or what the world could turn out like; they certainly moved me and they changed the way I think and what I think; they changed the way I act, they changed my goals as well, my priorities; but did they numb me? Did these fantasies console me, as well, and take away a drive for true change? after all, the action has already been taken in the fantasies; the world has already ended; or it has already been saved.

I feel so selfish, sometimes, and I think the feeling is warranted. I fail so often and so gravely, yet I can't help but feel that I should do what's best for me. Those fantasies are soothing, they dampen the discomfort of reality, and I feel like they enable me to pursue my goals selfishly. Maybe that's not so bad; maybe the alternative is total inaction. One person changing, even if isolated, is better than everyone staying in the death spiral; but, maybe, the alternative is more comprehensive action.

I can't say.

I wore jeans, today.

If we take a muscle as analogy for the mind, which I think isn't an unfair analogy, then it is a bit dangerous the practice the art of living in an alternative reality. You'll get better at it, and start using it undeliberately. It is the driver behind sectarianism, that leads to trustless societies (where the west is now), resulting in inefficiency at best, but eventually violence and purging.

If we take a muscle as analogy for the mind, which I think isn't an unfair analogy, then it's very beneficial to practice fantasy and dreaming. Living through these emotions relaxes the body, and feeds the mind. You'll get better at it, and start using it undeliberately. This aids towards a happy, fulfilling life.

Choose whatever opinion fits you best. Choose whatever opinion best serves society.

As long as the choice is yours. Your mind's choice that is.

Well, that just sounds like there isn't a right choice, and it's actually just complicated...
