A partnership to get green hydrogen trucks up and running in New Zealand says there is renewed interest in the technology as diesel prices remain high. |

@rimu sadly, hydrogen is being pushed by the oil industry, because they pitch as a 'transition fuel' from blue/black hydrogen (a byproduct of oil extraction or refinement) to mythical 'green hydrogen' created by renewable sources... but it turns out that batteries and electricity are far more efficient, cost-effective, and safe all around. |

Yes I'm deeply skeptical but those truckers are not in the business of losing money so they'll do whatever works. As a response to the current moment it's an interesting development. |

@rimu yeah. I'm thinking someone who's misguided managed to get some people who're a bit desperate to follow their suggestion. Will be interesting to see how it works out. |

@lightweight @rimu Yeah, green hydrogen is not going to happen for essentially any use. Maybe it is a real option for truly remote uses. But NZ is not big enough to have places that remote. But even the routes that are as remote as I'm thinking about, off grid solar + battery very fast chargers are a good solution. The two images are the same scale.

@LovesTha @rimu yes, and if we are silly enough to agree to a 'hydrogen' energy ecosystem, the oil industry will be able to drag out the transition to green hydrogen for as long as it wants. We need to cut them off at the knees... |

@rimu Yes, they'll do what is in their individual interests. And the oil companies are doing what is in their interest: encouraging a technology that is (sort of) viable with oil inputs, but wont be without them. |
