Giving everyone access to me. The ENTITLEMENT to access to others is crazy. “Polite” culture means we are required to avail ourselves to everyone. To give everyone access to us. If we don’t, we are “rude”. I am DONE. I stopped answering phone calls from bullies I don’t want to speak to. I no longer feel guilty. I never truly did. 2.) Unsolicited advice from people whose lives I would never want. Unsolicited advice. 3.) Not acting in my best interest. Why would I not act in my best interest to "be nice"?? As long as I am not committing crimes or harming others, why would I not? This never made sense to me. 4.) Incompatible Relationships. So much of my history of unstable relationships were due to being around people I simply was not compatible with. Incompatible values. Co-existing is important. I love that American culture teaches this. But the reality is, people are secretly arrogant about their values and the way they live (why would they follow them if they didn't think their way was the right way?) And they will try to impose their values on you. Responsible people shouldn’t be around irresponsible people. They will get used. Assertive people won’t make a good match with passive people. Intelligent should not lower themselves to accommodate stupid people. (Note: a degree doesn’t make you intelligent, and a person not having a degree doesn’t make them stupid). So it is important to be around those who you share values with. End. I can't do it anymore. It's exhausting. |
