I’m not here to cry about numbers, Arcane actually has pretty solid AoE, and even single-target isn’t unplayable, but it is bad. But damage isn’t why most of us play it. We play Arcane because it used to feel magical. Now it just feels… off. The spec got simplified coming into Midnight, which could’ve been nice, but it lost so much of what made it special. Arcane Missiles never gets pressed anymore in optimal play (especially in certain builds), and that hits the class identity hard. I used to feel like the arcane power was flowing through my character. Now I’m just staring at mana bars, praying for Salvo stacks, and sometimes spamming Arcane Barrage purely because I’m about to go OOM. Pressing Barrage because I’m oom feels like terrible design. Mana management is rough, especially in higher keys where packs take longer to die and you don’t have surge ready yet. And one bad Altar timing or missing an external from a healer leaves you completely dry and you start putting release spirit into your rotation. Touch of the Magi bursts are still the highlight, but getting there often feels clunky instead of satisfying. Survivability took a noticeable hit too. Mages already feel squishy, and with some defensive tools pruned or weakened, you’re leaning even harder on your healer and perfect positioning in tough content, I don’t know why we can’t have same defensives as frost, if so, we would be fine. In raids, I can easily swap to Frost and pull 20-30k+ more DPS on many bosses, but I stick with Arcane on whatever fights I can because Frost just doesn’t click for me. I only really log in for Arcane, and right now it’s making me sad instead of excited. Blizzard has basically ignored the spec all season despite consistent feedback from the community about the feel, mana issues, and missing identity. It’s frustrating when a spec you love gets simplified in all the wrong ways. |
