I'm the father of a 3-year-7-month-old who was recently diagnosed on the spectrum. This past year has been hard - in ways I suspect you'll recognize. We're slowly finding a rhythm around therapies, learning, and trying to stay informed. I won't pretend I understand the full picture yet. Right now I genuinely can't tell what his life will look like. He's progressing fast, though, which gives me hope he'll become fully verbal and find his place. But what I really want to ask is this: what would you recommend I do over the next 20 years? What do you wish your parents had done - or what did they actually do that helped? Thank you. |
