Where webusb
I read a long time ago that Mozilla weren't happy with the original proposals for webusb and webhid. I'm not sure if it was revisited since then. sort of a shame because I have to keep something like ungoogled chromium installed to interact with certain peripherals using the Via web app and similar, or even the GrapheneOS installer. Would love for them to revisit the spec and address the concerns they had with it for their own implementation. Seems there are various ways to hack it in, at least |

Most recent official comm: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/fully-support-web-usb-and-web-serial/idc-p/124054/highlight/true#M64310 28-04-2026 12:18 PM We don't have any updates on WebUSB right now - that spec is more complicated and we have some additional security concerns.
Is the security a big deal? GraphineOS, which marks security as their number one concern, has a first-class web installer that uses it. If there was any chance that this method was being secure, surely they would be the first ones to criticize it, no? |

Read the lengthy thread; we have been going back and forth on this for years |

Believe it or not, graphene might be very intelligent on mobile security but that's no guarantee across other tech. Not to mention the inherit motive to make their operating system easy to install so people can more easily use it. |

There's not zero chance, but Graphine itself makes a huge deal about verifying the validity of their own installation. They also prefer Chromium-based browsers for security. Thus why I'm curious. |
