Did Mickey Mouse really have big ears? Narcissus was an allegory for anyone who focused too much on their own appearance, there wasn't a literal dude that experienced the story in real life. Whether or not the person is objectively or even subjectively attractive doesn't matter. |

According to the legend, yes. Both men and women were dtf, but he only had eyes for himself. |

Canonically, yes. He was the son of a nymph, and was considered beautiful even as a baby. He got cursed by Nemesis because he spurned all admirers, and they petitioned for revenge. |

I guess the story wouldn't have worked otherwise so yeah, he'd just be delusional in that case. |

It's an imaginary character there's no consensus on how he was supposed to look... He's whatever you picture in your head, and the story obviously says he's attractive. What possible answer besides "yes" is there? It's like asking if the Road Runner was really smarter than the coyote nothing in any of the stories indicates he wasn't, so why would anyone answer differently? |

I'm asking for people's thoughts. I wasn't sure if he was actually beautiful in the story, or he just thought that he was. It was mentioned that he was cursed for being mean to his admirers, which is interesting. I also wanted to see if people thought he was beautiful themselves. Some could argue that his behavior made him ugly. |

Oh really? The people that insist their interpretation of literature is correct even after authors clarify that they're reading to far into it? They're barely better than tarot card readers. Go ahead and pass along all their words if you don't mind. I just can't think of a more perfect arrangement to hear what the "field of literary analysis" has to say to me, than thru an account I've just blocked. |

If you want a really interesting look at the Narcissus story I can't recommend highly enough a podcast called Alex Andreou's Podyssey, which covers the story in it's very first episode. It's a fascinating deep dive in the story, and the podcast as a whole is excellent. Well worth a listen. Confusingly there is also a podcast app called Podyssey, so you could listen to one on the other if you wanted 😁 |
