I was having breakfast with my 11-year-old son, Mike, when I thought of cheering him up and told him about how people who are Taurus, that is myself, would be having a bad week, compared to Sagittarius, that is my son, who would have a splendid week. I said it was according to the newspaper article, an attempt to put a smile on his face, I can tell he was happy about it as he got ready to catch the school bus. Mike studies in class 5.

Later that day he told me he liked a girl in class called Dizzy. Being the most caring mother I could be, I did not scold him, but instead just smiled and told him he should try talking to her. Although I did wonder what sort of name is it. The next day, Mike went to school all excited and struck up a conversation with Dizzy. He told me later that day about all this, and that they shared their lunch too.

Over the week, I observed that my son only kept talking about Dizzy and spoke about his plan to introduce me to her. But I only took it seriously when I saw a drawing on his table with “Dizzy” written over it. It was supposed to be a sketch of her. It was a childish drawing of course, but the smile on that face was so wrong that it looked creepy.

That smile stayed with me through the day. I just was not able to shake off the image of that face from my mind. To my horror, that night I had a nightmare where I was glued to my bed beside my son, Mike. I was unable to move, and that is when there was a knock on the door. I was immobile, leading to the knocks becoming more intense. After the loudest bang on the door, there was no more knocking heard. I thought the person at the door had gone, but that’s when my eyes looked at the bottom of the door.

The bed lamp cast some light, enough to distinguish large objects. I could clearly see the shadow of a person standing at the door, and I maintained my gaze for a long time. The unknown entity now just stood behind the door, not making any sound at all, but just waiting. My uneasiness grew by the second due to the knowledge of the entity’s presence. Although not in the room, it still bothered me. I felt it was lurking and might strike at any time. This made me try very hard to get up, but the glue would not let me. One moment I felt as if the skin on my back was peeling off slowly, so I just remained there.

After trying twice, I looked back at the door, and the shadow was no longer there. This fact, instead of bringing relief, brought more tension into the dark as my eyes searched the whole room. All the scary scenarios started flooding into my mind. Before I could hold onto even a single thought in this dimly lit room, the closet door opened on its own, and so did the door to death.

Mike, who had been silently sleeping all this while, suddenly got up, making me burst into screams, and as I held him, he did not react but rather raised his right hand and pointed towards the closet. My hand was wicked cold, with my head burning, as my eyes were not yet ready to look at what lay in the closet. Sadly, however, there was no escape but to turn my face and find out. I held onto Mike very tightly, refusing to look anywhere else in the room. A very tense few seconds passed. I was still looking at Mike held in my arms and Mike in the closet’s direction, when Mike got close to my ears and whispered, “Mom, it’s standing right beside you….”

Shivers went down my spine and I almost froze. This was the most ominous thing I had ever heard. The fright was unlike anything before, as I asked my son, “What… what does it look like!?…”

Amidst all this terror, my son stated, “A monster, Mom… a big and dreadful monster.”

I held him tighter as I felt some source of air coming in my direction. Some sticky liquid fell onto my feet as I let out the most horrific scream. It was a scream for my life, and then the scariest part of the whole sequence occurred. Just before the monster would act further, my child said, “Don’t be scared Mom, Dizzy won’t hurt you!”

I woke up from this nightmare. After seeing all this, I told Mike I would come to pick him up tomorrow. My plan was to find out who this Dizzy was, and how she looked.

As it happened, the next day, after the school bell rang, I stepped out of the car looking for Mike, expecting Dizzy by his side, and there he was with his friend, being all joyful. I did not see her face clearly, so my desperation to meet Dizzy grew, driven by last night’s nightmare. Mike finally reached the car, and as he waved back at that girl, I waved at her too. Mike got into the car and asked me why I was so happy.

I started the car and told him I liked the girl’s blue eyes as they were rare. I asked him why he never mentioned Dizzy’s eyes. What he said next changed my mood again. He told me that girl was not Dizzy, but Margaret.

My expressions started to change and I started worrying again. I thought it was Dizzy. Then I asked my son worriedly, “What about Dizzy then? … Where is she?”

Out of nowhere, I heard devil’s bells and felt goosebumps rise through my body as my son uttered the most sinister words I could possibly expect.

He answered my question:

“Dizzy never left our room Mom, she’s still in the closet!”
