Got one for like $15. It’s new old stock, but obviously a decade old. I’d use it for cold storage, backups, games, and random archive stuff.

My main dilemma is manufacturing: is there any meaningful difference between a sealed 2015 WD Blue 1TB 7200 RPM drive and a newer sealed HDD from, say, 2021–2025? Better materials, firmware, reliability, head/platter tech, etc?

Nothing enterprise, it’s just a 1TB WD Blue.
