So I have ~60 TB of data backed up to Backblaze (not B2). I feel the pain of Backblaze enforcing a limit that gives me issues. What to do then? I have a data safe in my garage with an extra copy of the data, but I prefer an offsite copy as well.

So I was thinking about tapes. Lower end drives (LTO4 - LTO5) seem cheap, but the tapes are relatively expensive per TB compared to LTO8/9/10 tapes. On the other hand LTO9 and 10 drives are $$$$$$.

Does someone has any good backup ideas that are not tape? HDD's are $$$ at the moment as we all know. How to find good deals for used drives?

My questions for those who have experience with tapes:

  1. Are used tapes reliable and safe and how do I check the condition?

  2. What's the best approach for finding a 5.25" internal tapedrive? I guess they come with SAS so you need a SAS raid card? Or are there SATA versions available well? How about external USB?

  3. Where would be the sweet spot for cost of tapes, amount of storage and cost of drive?

  4. How critical are the storage conditions? I have a drycabinet for my photography gear set to 45% RH. Is that too humid? Also, during summer, temperature can reach 25C there. I can't set the humidity lower because it will dry out the rubber of my lenses...

  5. How to find a good deal for good (used) tapes and a used drive?

Important: I'm based in The Netherlands (Europe).

Thank you all!
