Bit of an "er, akshully" here but only four of the post-Soviet states (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan) ever had nukes in their territory post-independence, and even then all of the codes to actually launch them were still in Moscow. And in case you're wondering what happened to them, they were all given back to Russia or dismantled (Ukraine took a bit more convincing than the other two tho) |

I love that, somewhere out there in the world, someone is watching Empty Nest. |

Good to know, and I did have my suspicions about that number. To be fair, it's totally in-character for Carol to exaggerate things like that.

I had completely forgotten it existed until something randomly reminded me of it a few weeks ago. Searched everywhere only to find there's no DVD box set to buy or anywhere you can stream it. But thankfully the full series got posted to Youtube and apparently upscaled. |

At least after having this epiphany, it does make me appreciate when I see fellow Barbaras in the wild. |

I just learned this show exists. We're rewatching Golden Girls and the Empty Nest pilot was folded in as part of the regular GG eppisodes in season 2. The pilots premise is much different than what Empty Nest ended up like. In the pilot, the husband and wife are still married. But he's a workaholic and so the story centered around the wife trying to tell her husband she needed his attention more at home. They had a grown daughter who had just come back from college because she found her boyfriend with another girl. And their friend Oliver, who was some kind of wacky pilot. The actor playing Oliver showed up as, I think, a neighbour in Empty Nest, and I think he was the only actor to make it from the pilot into the show itself. I guess my question is whether Empty Nest is worth watching for someone who didn't grow up with it? I was excited to see Rita Moreno as the wife, but she seemed the strongest character. How does the show hold up with the different direction it took after the pilot? |
