Got a new internet provider and they sent their router gateway box. My Zephyrus G14 was struggling to connect to the internet. It would connect to the router but I'd be unable to access the internet, or even the router's settings via 10.0.0.1

After researching, it appears to be an issue with the MediaTek card, stemming from a handshake or protocol mismatch. I noticed that the issue was occurring on WiFi 6.

As a quick remedy, I made the card default to WiFi 5 using Device Manager. Steps:

  • Open Device Manager
  • Under "Network adapters", find MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E MT7922 160MHz Wireless LAN Card
  • Right click it, select Properties
  • Go to the Advanced tab
  • For the property 802.11ax/ac/n/abg, select the value 2. 802.11ac

No longer facing issues. Missing out on WiFi 6 is no biggie as my max WiFi speed is 500 Mbps anyway.
