I’m not sure if this is the correct term but I’ll do my best to describe these. A city which was once a lively place full of people and business which has dried up the people are gone the stores and shops are gone and what’s left is a few people who remember the past. Ive been through a few and live near one. It’s sad to see. One I’ve been to is Vicco. It used to be a small coal mining town and surprisingly the smallest town in the US to pass an ordinance outlawing discrimination based on sexual orientation a surprising bit of progress down south. I’ve seen the old stores, the abandoned railroad all that. It’s sad seeing these small little pieces of Kentucky culture dry up one by one. We’ll always have those pictures of better times, lively cities, etc but we loose who and what these places were. |
