Obligitory, this happened last week. So I'm a janitor at my university, I have another job where I help people with special needs, something we are trained to do when clients ask for stuff rudely is "i'm sorry is that how we ask for things." So at my janitor job, I'm cleaning a glass door, a professor came up behind me and said "janitor, you forgot the trash can in my room. I need you to take care of it." Before thinking about it my brain defaulted to saying "I'm sorry, is that how we ask for things?" Then my brain caught up to what I said, I quickly apologized and explained why I responded that way. She apologized for asking that way. (also my co-worker was the one who was doing the trashes that day). Today I saw her again and I thanked her for not reporting me to HR.

TL;DR: I corrected a professor for asking for stuff rudly
