I grew up watching the Munsters and Addams shows and films, and it never occured to me the former was ripping the latter off. I see many people state that the Munsters are a cheap knockoff of the other family like it's an irrefutable, well known fact when it's common knowledge that they actually premiered the same week.

In fact after watching both shows, the films, and now with the new Wednesday spinoff out, I see the Addams franchise borrowing gags or making characters obviously inspired by the Munsters more than the other way around, especially with Pubert and Enid.

When I pointed out to a fan once that they aired at the same time, they said the Addams comics came before the Munsters. That doesn't explain how the Munsters copied, though. The vague trait of being supernatural families isn't proof enough they're a knockoff IMO. And the Munsters are very obviously spoofs of the iconic Universal monsters who came out before all this.

Maybe it's just fans being bitter that a rival franchise is successful? I have never actually heard a justification for why they think this and whenever someone points out all the stuff the AF has copied, they just silently downvote or block lol.

It's just odd how common it is and how weirdly aggressive Addams fans can be about pushing this like a fact. You never see for example Bewitched fans treating Jeannie like this.
