If you didn’t hear the announcement last Star Trek Day, Magic: The Gathering (published by Wizards of the Coast) will be releasing for the 60th anniversary in November a brand new Star Trek themed set. Today Creation Entertainment have announced a new sponsorship from Wizards of the Coast for STLV. Official announcement text:
I’m not even a Magic player and I can’t wait to try out the Welcome Decks. |

Just an FYI, if anyone looks into this and sees a good deal of negativity in the MTG community about it, it isn't that they're specifically negative about Star Trek, but rather there's just a general growing discontent with the volume and variety of 3rd party IP sets being produced in the last year or two. The sets are usually pretty solid on theming for those who like that IP, play quality varies (but that's true for any set), usually feels better when the set has a bit of a story to it. These sets are created with the primary goal to pull in new players based on the IP, collecting the game is not cheap, but there's a wide variety of interesting ways to play it. You won't be "competitive" with just cards from this set (if that matters to you), you'll probably need a variety of IP cards from things like Marvel, Turtles, Airbender or Final Fantasy as well as the Magic core IPs. |

Look, I don’t expect to actually play at all. But I’m not going to worry about being competitive if I do. |

I just started playing MTG and didn't know about this forthcoming Trek expansion, so I'm intrigued. |

They have a series of sets they make that themed after existing IPs. The latest was Marvel. |

We will be in the Holosuite coming up with the wildest community formats to keep this going as long as possible. |

I know nothing about the game, but can one of them be a 47 minute timed limit? |
