I have a dumb question about artifacts like this, they are always a bit borked (assimetrical designs, not really round, etc.) is this a process limitation e.g. they just couldn't make them better, or they were in better shape and were damaged during their lifetime? |

I imagine a mixture of those factors. Some are fantastically symmetrical, most are a little asymmetrical, many are seemingly crude. I imagine some of it is a literal skill issue - many pieces were probably created by non-specialist artisans in a time before robust technical manuals and training standards. |
