It's weird they still act like box office is the sole meaningful metric...

It's WB, it's gonna be on HBO.

There's a very narrow slice of people who don't meet at least one of these exclusionary demos:

  1. No money to waste.

  2. Better experience at home.

  3. Likes strangers enough to watch a movie with a bunch of them but not enough to go somewhere to interact with them.

  4. Has the time/resources to go out and watch a new movie but has something better to do even just watching one at home to save travel time/hassle.

It wasn't COVID restrictions that killed the industry, it was the economic changes accelerated by COVID.

I agree it's not all doom and gloom, but people are still going to the theater.

Disclosure Day is doing alright, and Toy Story is killing it at the theatres. The Odyssey and Spider-Man are up next for July. If they show weak numbers then maybe it is just a bad theatre season like you said. But I suspect they'll both do well.

Supergirl is a misstep, but we have plenty more stories to come.

Plus once it hits HBO it could give folks renewed Supergirl interest, combined with Superman and end up boosting Man of Tomorrow in the long run.
