I just don't get this kind of behavior in the 21st century when we now have all the science, it's not like something that will just go away like a fad. When people deny their true feelings or selves, real bad things can happen, something I'm sure the church has a lot of experience with. Go ahead and bury your head in the sand Malaysia, but LGBTQIA+ is normal, ignoring reality is NOT |

Is there not a term we can use before this thing grows too long to remember? (It's already too long for me.) |

That's a fair point I think, it's getting pretty verbose and frankly muddles the issues a little bit. I suppose gender diversity would be a good one but the word diversity has been witch hunted. Human sexual spectrum is still a bit of a mouthful too. |

Still easier to remember than that letter soup 😅👍 |

I was under the impression that the Q part works as an inclusive letter for everyone not in the first ones... Or maybe the + but still. |

Yeah the Queer part seems to be the umbrella term, which includes both people who are not included in the other letters, but also those which are included. So that kind of makes LGBTQ a recursive initialism, and the + also seems redundant, as well as the LGBT part when you think about it. 😅️ But anyway, I think queer is a great word for it. It's almost "queen", just with the thing cut off at the end there. |

Explicit inclusion is implicit exclusion. Say "queer". 'Gender and Sexual Minority' if you think queer is a slur. |

Queer has been recommended and then researched by me, so I'll use that as that seems acceptable.
Could you explain this mind bender? |

So if we say who is included (lesbians gays bisexuals and trans people) everyone not one of those things is excluded, only by keeping close to those things can you be included even if you're otherwise queer. The logic of exclusion persists in cultural and institutional memory as well as being personally a piece of shit, as we see with modern groups dropping the T from lgbt, or the 'acronym too long' types who aren't concerned so much with the acronym itself |

That's a verbose way of calling me a piece of shit. 🙄 I was just trying to find a term that was easy to remember, as well as inclusive. People suggested "queer", I will adopt "queer". 👍 Have a great day. |

You literally asked. Unless you're one of those "lgb BUT NOT T" people. Then yes, total piece of shit. |

We need to start tagging nsfw hetero themes in media if a breeder couple are holding hands. |

Jesus Christ. Have a good day. I've already been helped to be inclusive by other, nice people. Please take your unwarranted and unwanted hostility elsewhere. |

I can't imagine anyone other than a transphobe who's okay with cis-gays reading my explanation competently without brain damage and having this reaction to it. I feel like I was clear, so I'm pretty happy with your displeasure. |

How do you possibly deduce that I'm a transphobe from our exchanges? Is that what you're saying I am? I can't even follow along with that concave logic here. Just because you feel like you were clear doesn't mean you were. You are quite biased when you judge your own clarity, you know. This is an insight not everyone has... It couldn't be further from the truth if so. I've only expressed — explicitly — that I want to be nothing but inclusive. You just normally go around inserting yourself in threads and making baseless accusations like this? I noticed your account is quite new. Here on Lemmy we try to be nicer to each other than what was the norm on Reddit. Can we try that now? |

Queer was the same slur as the rest for me growing up. I can see myself being judged for using it. I would gladly use gender minorities if I need an alternative. |

Apparently not. You asked a question about how I got to a conclusion. I answered. You started the hostility. |

The community really needs to adopt "queer" as the norm. |

Also the people outside the community like me, right? Or would that be kind of like the N word, only for people inside the community? I want to use what people inside the community feel comfortable with. |

I'm from Germany, so take my input with a grain of salt regarding English. But here queer is indeed just the common word both by queer people and everyone else. Some conservatives don't like it because it's a new age word and prefer gay/lesbian, which is also fine by me. I think in English its more common that older queer people don't like it, because they remember it as a slur, while younger are more open. Though a lesbian friend of mine was surprised when she heard about the usage in Germany, because while she doesnt see it as a slur, she associates it with flamboyancy and doesnt consider herself so. I think it should be a word for everyone, because it goes of the tongue better. But maybe feel the crowd first and go by what they use. |

I also like it for its meaning, especially that it encompasses more than just gay and lesbian, since there are so many other non-conforming ways of being. Although the sound of the word is a little bit slur-ish to me. It sounds to me like something "wrong" or not as it "should be". I imagine that's due to one or several of:
But either way, if that's what goes, I'm more than happy to oblige. I want to be a cis straight male that sets an example for others of my kind — one of respect and friendship, regardless of who you are. In honor of my grandfather, RIP. |
