Been a bit busy lately, but here is the idea which won't die back again. To be fair, it is a good idea - but oh my, the costs

I don't entirely see the point of living on an island if you can just drive off it any time. (As someone who lives on an island).

Ah, this was something that Skye lost too when it was connected. And locals still moan about it today, and with good reason. Driving on Skye is hellish. I think connecting an archipelago a bit different however. Shetland is hardly inundated as it stands today

I live on one of the smaller Orkney islands, and the difficulty of getting here filters out many types of tourists found on Mainland (notably those with vehicles). Shetland is a little harder to get to than Orkney though.

Some more tourists would be good for Hoy or Westray I'd think. Must be a bit too insular sometimes?

I suppose in this case it'd be like making two islands into one bigger island? There's certainly not about to be a tunnel from Mainland, Shetland to mainland Scotland

This seems to have been a successful project in the Faroes so I am cautiously optimistic, but I am quite concerned by how even our initial plans seem to be several times more expensive
