Maybe the AI community could stop selling their services to militaries, arms manufacturers, genocidal states etc. Perhaps stop steamrolling over small communities, polluting the environment, and raising electricity bills. Perhaps focusing on not stealing every human created work in order to take away the creator's livelihood.

Perhaps all these things would help stave off justified hatred.

One thing that almost everyone in AI can agree on right now is that AI doesn't need a Chernobyl moment," he added.

Casper didn't elaborate further on this analogy,

So it's just fearmongering.

This doesn't mean that AI doesn't have downsides, it means usually that they want to stifle the competition or some other bullshit tactic.

Uhhh... hello? Israel's mass-murder campaign in Gaza already qualifies as an AI-driven "Mass Casualty Event."

AI is just a tool there. It's helping them do the murdering more efficiently but it's still the people doing the murdering.

So are nuclear reactors - you know, like Chernobyl?

It is governments that funded the research into AI specifically for their militaries and security apparatuses - the fact that liberal elites gets to "sell" AI to militaries and security apparatuses is simply a very liberal way of ensuring control of AI remains in the hands of liberal elites. After all, it's for the maintenance of the liberal order that these militaries and security apparatuses exist in the first place, is it not?

Sooo, no... it's not simply a question of a few "bad apple" capitalists selling AI to the military - it's just liberal oligarchy functioning as designed.

Unfortunately I am not good at conveying a sarcastic tone. The point was to say that doing those things is the very core of what AI is and AI can't be separated from that.

Quite a lot different there. At Chernobyl the safety measures failed after several human errors, but the failure was still unintentional. In Israel, the devastation is either intentional or so close to intentional that it's difficult to even guess at an AI breakdown. The Chernobyl moment for AI will be when someone is trying to use it for something good or benign and it's actions will start to go in a dangerous direction, and continues despite human attempts to stop it. Your current situation would be analogous is the operator at Chernobyl were trying to initiate a meltdown and succeeded and the tools they used were maybe just a little more efficient than intended.
