Original Title: LPT: If you're taking group photos of family or friends, don't stop after the "official" picture. Keep your camera up and take one more photo after everyone thinks you're done, you'll often capture the most natural smiles and expressions of the entire session.

I started doing this after noticing that the "official" photo was rarely anyone's favorite. As soon as people hear "Okay, we're done," they stop forcing their smile, laugh with each other, make eye contact, or just naturally relax. Since then, I've made it a habit to quietly keep the camera up for another second and take one last photo without announcing it. Surprisingly, that extra photo ends up being the one people choose most often because everyone looks more genuine instead of posing for the camera. It only takes one extra second, but it can easily become the best picture of the day.
