TIL the word "fnord," from The Illuminatus! Trilogy, gives characters subconscious feelings of unease and confusion, thus preventing rational thought, every time the word appears

I remember staying up all night and getting to the point where normal words looked crazy to me. I would sit there trying to make sense of them but they would just seem wrong, especially how certain letters were next to each other.

After finally sleeping, the word would look normal again.

Most successful fnord in history: "Trump"

Because you either know he's a cop, or you're in one of two cults.

And to go a step further, any acronym that represents anything even remotely progressive is a fnord to MAGA.

Yea, I mean memeplexes be memeplexing and thus they're diametrically opposed cults of political narrative derived from the same driving force behind the fnord. They're kept in line mostly by peer pressure, the children who make up those cults are.
