I'm a 21 year old trans woman living in the Carribean. Due to both the the extreme homophobia where I live and just generally unsafe neighboors hoods across where I live. I don't even feel safe coming out to friends or family because not only would I be kicked out, direct violence against gay people (trans people are just considered gay they don't care enough to make a distiction) is extremly normalized i would also likly lose my job if anyone found out since my country is small enough that everyone basically knows each other. for these reasons and others I want to permanently move to another country and continue my transistion, while doing so as secretly as possible. |

This is a good question, in my opinion: What are the countries with the best trans rights protections and ease of access to immigration? I want to know so I have better answers when this comes up. |

I am sorry for the troubles you are in, hang in there. I would say you should start by looking at visa, visa requirements and decide on a path. Depending on where you are from you might speak Spanish / Portuguese. With that I’d say aim for Spain or Portugal. Try to find a university, work or path of education you could do. There might be a network for trans people in Spain or Portugal who are willing to help with relocation. It could also be possible to apply for asylum due to the danger of your home country. If Spanish isn’t an option most if not any European country will be able to help you out in English. UK is an obvious choice but atm they have their own problems around trans rights so I would at most use them as a temporary shelter before moving to a different EU country like Germany or Norway. Ireland is potentially also very good, as a stepping stone. There is the trans network in the Netherlands they might have some resources for you. |

I have no insight on anything to do with your specific circumstances but can provide a bit of insight into leaving a country in general. Earlier this year my wife and I moved our family to the UK from the US. Our biggest hurdle was finding employment that offered sponsorship for a visa. My employer offered to sponsor for the max term of 5 years which we happily took as after 5 years you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain and stay without a visa. TLDR; find target countries, save a lot of money, find a job that's sponsors, be patient and take each day as it comes. |

If she is legally criminalized in her country, she may be able to apply for asylum/refugee status. |

I think for NZ you'd fall into our skilled worker visa thing, possibly also or asylum criteria. Or government had almost everything online, so you can probably find it what you need there. |

Only one of those three countries is in the EU, fyi. Not to knock your comment, it seems like very good advice. |

Being from the Caribbean and speaking Spanish (and your country being spanish speaking) you may feel comfy and safe in the Canary Islands. The problem is that you need a person who can support you and host you while you are getting all your papers in order. And also the housing situation is complicated for locals. That is why I recommend having someone inside to host you and such initially. A part of the island where I live is very mixed in population coming from Cuba, Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana, etc. Once you are resident here, you may apply for spanish citizenship after 2 years because you come from a country with connections with it. |

Unironically Cuba would be decent ish, if you're queer. They'll also need people for electrics a lot due to the blackouts. The only issue is the US being near. If the US doesn't honour the treaty to never attack Cuba (and I doubt they'll honour it unless if China & Russia manage to protect it), that is going to complicate matters. Still, I wish the EU backed Cuba, even if only strategically due to it also opposing the US. |
