In the Blues Brothers movie did they only sing two songs and got the hell out? Kind of seems like a waste of money. Unless they were the opening act or something.

I don't recall if there were cut songs from that scene, but also - Jake & Elwood were conmen. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they just did the few tunes and booked it.

In my head Cab Calloway took over leading the band for the rest of the show.

It was a waste of money for the audience but they were on a mission from God.

In which part? The country/western bar? I thought they completed a whole set, despite the hostility and general demeanor of the bar. They only skipped town when they were informed that they drank way more than their own performance fee.

As far as the end act, they needed to do something to con the lawmen who were literally waiting backstage to arrest them.

This should be top of the thread, but as usual with threads in which up is down, and right is left... XD

Wonder if that was the inspiration for Clay Calloway in Sing 2.

The band was playing a bunch of songs before the brothers arrived, the brothers just performed the "last two songs". We see Cab Calloway warming up the crowd with one of those other songs. It was all for a good cause and I'm sure the outlaw nature of the duo was no surprise to anyone. We as the audience are "in on it", seems safe to assume the on-screen audience is kind of "in on it too". "Orange whip? Orange whip? ... Three orange whips."

Cab Calloway was a legendary band leader in his own right, far beyond his minor role in a Saturday Night Live sketch turned cult classic. His picture belongs in the encyclopedia for skat.

The biggest waste of money was what was needed to repair the mall after the epic chase.
