I don't know what linked in is anymore but it's certainly not what it was even 5 years ago.

Strava would actually be a good way to meet someone. Meeting through a common interest is probably the best way to meet a partner, so I can see the reasoning behind being recommended someone who also goes mountain biking, or whatever you happen to be into.

Can I search for a Coldplay-enjoying HR lady yet? Asking for a CEO friend.

Some users have taken this idea to the extreme. Last summer, a British expat in Singapore, Candice Gallagher, made waves after posting a TikTok video in which she said LinkedIn had "A-grade filters" for finding "A-grade men" — namely, doctors, lawyers, and "finance bros." In the post, she touted the various filters you could use to track down ideal partners. More recently, a screenshot of the tech entrepreneur George Hotz's LinkedIn bio was shared on X. In his bio, Hotz declared that he now used the site "exclusively as a dating platform" and laid out a catalog of requisite attributes — "intelligent, attractive, female, in or visiting San Diego" — for his ideal match. "Send me a message and invite me out for a drink," he wrote.

Yeaaaaah. No. Geohot? I haven't thought about him in forever. So I did a quick bit of searching.

i offer some services:
30 minute consulting phone calls for $1,000 (no life advice, for business/technical discussion only)
due diligence on a company/topic for $10,000 (will do a day of research and call with founder, great value)
e-mail me to schedule and confirm, be ready to paypal and chat right away

Is that in line with industry pricing now? I'm more out of touch than I imagined.

Interesting blog.

Since at least 2008, every time there’s an option to either make the money track real value or make sure things don’t go down, they chose the latter. As a result, money is increasingly uncoupled from reality.

From Cory Doctorow’s blog:

The actual dead economy risk is that our institutions and markets will continue to move capital from productive activity into memestocks, vibes, and bubbles.

I mean, I kind of get a vague picture and in* a vague way, I vaguely get it. Maybe.

A home for poorly researched ideas that I find myself repeating a lot anyway

And a couple of start ups.

I have never been enticed to it, even when it supposedly would have greatly benefited me. I hope I'm able to continue to avoid it.

Weird stuff, man... Appreciate you bringing attention:

"decision asked editors to help remove and replace links to the following domain names used by the archive site: archive.today, archive.is, archive.ph, archive.fo, archive.li, archive.md, and archive.vn"

Bummer that these are needed services, Alta already constantly under attack by common enemies, and then junk like this happens.

The wayback machine doesn’t give me the option to archive sites anymore, only to access previously archived sites. Is that just me somehow missing the archive button?

https://web.archive.org/save Does this page work for you? If you're on mobile, could try going into your browser menu and changing to the desktop view for https://web.archive.org/ to see if the "Save Page Now" section shows up.

It's not. I know female mountain bikers who can't use strava, because they got so sick of creepy weirdo dudes stalking them on strava and begging them for dates. That or they just set their account to private.

It's not a good way to meet people, by stalking them in online apps. But desperate idiots can't imagine there is any other way.

I have never used linkedin, and been asked for it on dating apps, and I get blocked when i say I don't use it.

People are weird and miserable. You can't gamify or maximize relationships, but they don't want to hear that.
