I have vaultwarden, navidrome, uptime kuma (on a vps, because it doesn't make sense to host it on my pi, because if it goes down, I'm not gonna know), pihole (though it's not currently working with Mullvad), dokuwiki, freshrss, searxng, ntfy, and tugtainer (replacement for watchtower since that's now abandoned).

My Self-Hosting Journey

I began my self-hosting journey in 2021 with the goal of hosting a game server for friends so they would not need to pay for external hosting. Through onsite IT work, I acquired several 6th and 8th generation i7 systems from companies that were downsizing or upgrading. After adding inexpensive NVMe storage and APC battery backups, the environment grew quickly.

What started as a single server eventually expanded to three dedicated game servers running 27/4, supporting up to 270 concurrent players at peak. These servers have been up for almost 4 years now.

Internet Connection

  • ISP: Optimum Fiber (1 Gbps / 1 Gbps symmetrical) – $65/month
  • ISP router configured in bridge mode if I return it they take away a discount.

Network Infrastructure

  • Router: UDM Pro
  • Switch: USW 16-Port PoE
  • Access Point: AC Pro

Infrastructure Services

DNS Server

  • Raspberry Pi 4 (4 GB RAM)
  • DietPi OS
  • Running Pi-hole for DNS filtering

Game Server Infrastructure

All game servers are connected to APC battery backups and maintain approximately 99% uptime, with downtime only occurring during scheduled maintenance. A custom watchdog script automatically restarts servers if a crash occurs.

  • Game Server 1

    • i7 6th Gen
    • 24 GB RAM
    • 500 GB NVMe storage
    • Windows Server 2019
  • Game Server 2

    • i7 8th Gen
    • 32 GB RAM
    • 500 GB NVMe storage
    • Windows Server 2019
  • Game Server 3

    • i7 8th Gen
    • 28 GB RAM
    • 500 GB NVMe storage
    • Windows Server 2019

Virtualization / Homelab

Proxmox Server

  • i7 12th Gen
  • 40 GB RAM
  • 1 TB NVMe storage
  • External USB Media Drive – 22 TB (with backup)

Current Services

  • Jellyfin – Replacing all commercial streaming services (currently LAN only, working on secure remote access)

Planned Additions

  • NGINX – Reverse proxy for secure external access
  • Apache Guacamole – Replace RemotePC for remote access
  • Tailscale – Replace Surfshark for private networking
  • Vaultwarden – Replace RoboForm for password management

If you think there are better options please let me know so I can do my research!

Hardware:

  • hp EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF
  • i5-8500
  • 32 GB RAM
  • 250 ssd boot disk
  • 1TB nvme
  • 2 x 4 TB SSD

I run most of my services via Docker but also in their own LXCs on Proxmox:

  • adguard
  • borg-backup
  • caddy
  • forgejo
  • filebrowser-quantum
  • rackpeek
  • opencloud, Baikal, obsidian-live sync
  • immich
  • paperless
  • vikunja
  • navidrome, octo-fiesta
  • karakeep
  • proxmox-backup-server

Next thing I want to set up would be arcane and maybe ansible, audio-bookshelf, and someday some monitoring.

I access my services only via NetBird when I am out and about.

The biggest flaw in my setup as for now is that I only have one device that’s a single point of failure. Since I have remote backups that’s okayish atm. In the future I would try to get ahold of more hardware and separate things out.
For someone who just wanted to try things out a little I got my self kind of deep into it haha
Performance vice its enough for me as a single user

Also: If anyone has any suggestions what I could do with my Oracle free tier VPS, besides running a Minecraft server, I would be happy to hear ideas :)

I learn so much :)

I've had a computer in front of me since the mid 70s with the Altair. Now, don't mistake time with skill, but, the learning aspect is what I dig the most.

Small Datacenter..

Hardware:
3x Dell R630's, 256G (in 2) 512G (in 1) (Proxmox, Vmware ESX, NutanixCE)
1x Dell R730XD, 240TB, 256G-Ram (Truenas)
1x Dell R730XD, 50TB, 128GB Ram (Proxmox Backup Server)

In truenas containers I'm running my entire *Arr stack, cloudflare, Paperless, Ollama, Immich, etc.

In Proxmox I'm running a few Linux VM's (mail gateway, Desktop VM's for work, etc).
VMWare and Nutanix are disposable hypervisors I use for deployment testing for work stuff.

I have an Asus NUC 12th gen with 32gb of ram and 1 TB of storage atm. I plan on expanding it with a DAS then run with that for a very long while until I can get a nice rack to play with and do some sys admin stuff down the line.

But ATM I got an arrstack going for Movies, TV, and Music. Alongside that I have Stalwart for mail, Immich for photo backup/gallery, Vaultwarden for password and auth manager, and opencloud for cloud storage.

Hey, I'm new here - but not new to self-hosting :-)

Self-hosting started for me via hosting a few services on my NAS - and then it escalated a bit...

At home:

  • 2 Proxmox hosts (Miniforum MS-01 & GEEKOM XT12 Pro), services running mostly as Docker stacks in LXC containers, deployed via Komodo
  • (several) Synology NAS (DS918+, DS1520+, DX517, RS2423+) for storage and backups
  • UniFi network hardware (UDM Pro, USW Aggregation, USW Pro 48 PoE, U6-Lite APs) with a couple of VLANs. 10 GbE where possible.
  • Technitium as DNS (recently replaced my old setup with AdGuard Home)
  • Authentik for SSO in front of almost everything
  • Nginx Proxy Manager as reverse proxy, Uptime Kuma to monitor stuff, Homepage as dashboard
  • The actual fun stuff: Immich, Home Assistant, Paperless-NGX, Mealie, Bar Assistant, Stirling-PDF, Forgejo, Dawarich, LubeLogger, Umami, PBS, Grafana, AFFiNE, Actual, lifeGLANCE, Grocy, Rallly, Rackula, SnapOtter, Wallos, Homebox, RomM, Excalidraw my media stack… the list keeps growing, as I'm sure you all know.

Outside:

  • a small server at a German hoster for the real public-facing stuff (WordPress blogs etc.). I just recently revived my old blog, started blogging again and - old school - created a personal website :-D

More about me can be found there. Also my new blog posts are and will be mostly about self-hosting topics after a longer blogging hiatus of about 15 years. Yes, I know, blogs aren't exactly in fashion anymore :-)

Looking forward to discussions & fresh ideas from the community!

Main one I use right now is a media center running FreeBSD and XFCE, and KDE Connect for remote-like functionality.

I just play files with mpv manually, but might write a front-end for it one day.

My stack (Docker on Pi 5/Debian) is much bigger than this, but my top three favourites (not in any particular order) are:

  • Adguard Home (browsing on my phone is finally bearable).
  • Wireguard (using wg-easy) to not deal with port forwarding.
  • Ignis, which I heavily prefer over WebObsidian. Aside from CouchDB giving me hell, it doesn't use VNC to stream to your browser--it's built on Electron and all the hard work is done in-browser (am happy to glaze this project further).

Heyyy,
I started because I wanted save money and move away from Google to hosting mini cloud for my whole family that we rely on.

  1. I have TrueNAS Server with i5-8400, 32GB of RAM, 256gb nvme for OS, 512gb SSD for appdata dataset, 8tbx2 and 4tbx2 mirrored totaling 12TB of usable space with 512gb SSD for cache for main storage dataset.

TrueNAS hosts these containers:

  • immich_machine_learning
  • paperless-ngx
  • immich_server
  • immich_postgres
  • ix-adguard-home-adguardhome
  • flaresolverr
  • joplin
  • plex
  • content_pipeline
  • pinchflat
  • seerr
  • jupyterlab
  • sonarr
  • bazarr
  • prowlarr
  • radarr
  • filebrowser
  • calibre-web
  • ix-speedtest-tracker-speedtest
  • qbittorrent
  • bookshelf
  • paperless-db
  • scrutiny
  • gitea
  • gluetun
  • audiobookshelf
  • baikal
  • beszel
  • posting_worker
  • vikunja-db
  • vikunja
  • ix-cloudflared-cloudflare
  • grocy
  • ntfy
  • watchtower
  • vaultwarden
  • beszel-agent
  • immich_redis
  • paperless-redis
  • wireguard-tunnel
  • kavita
  1. I also have AI Server with i5-9400, 40gb of RAM, 128gb nvme for OS, GTX 1070 8GB for local Qwen3.5 9b model and openrouter API for deepseek model.

Containers that it runs are:

  • Open WebUI
  • GPT-Researcher
  • Hermes
  • open-terminal
  • Mem0
  • Ollama
  • DDGS
  • Caddy
  • Tailscale
  1. Then I have a VPS for proxy, crowdsec, fail2ban to expose my services.

  2. And also I pay for iDrive e2 bucket to backup everything.

Well this my small production server infrastructure that i am very proud of.
And I'm so glad I have UPS for both of the server.
Thank you)))

I started in August. Running docker containers on ubuntu server lts minimal, on a ryzen 3 3200g with 16gb ram.

Running:

  • Jellyfin
  • RomM
  • Kiwix
  • Seafile
  • Beszel
  • Portainer
  • WUD
  • Pi-hole
  • Unbound
  • Caddy
  • Syncthing
  • Tailscale

The domain has no website and no open ports, so Caddy handles routing and automated tls certification via api.
External access only via tailscale, per user and per device approval process.
Split horizon dns so domain names resolve direct routes to server on lan, and via tailnet from outside.

500GB nvme OS drive rsynched nightly to a second matched nvme in the server.
HDD data drives backed up using rsynch to matching sized drives in a DAS unit. Script dumps romm and seafile databases to hdd before rsynch
Git pulls to data drive, captured in backup and Syncthing to separate device.

Parallel Pihole and Unbound on a RPi5.
RPi5 is primary dns for the lan to spread load, but the config master is the server, RPi is kept in sync with a one way feed from the main server using Syncthing.

Looking into adding openclaw and ollama to play with, maybe use to monitor the server a bit more proactively. Need to plan out permissions and security so nothing dumb happens.

Started about 15 years ago hosting media files on a Drobo but quickly realized that wasn’t going to work for me. Moved to Synology for NAS and then finally landed on Unraid 4 years ago.

Currently hosting the usual media stack like plex and *arr. Recently added Grimmory and hooked into my Kobo. Also have Immich deployed. Testing the waters with Tofa as a next project.

Running everything on 112Tb array with a 12600k + 32Gb RAM.

Hi,
I start my journey one year ago when I started degoogling my house.

I have a NAS with docker. And I selfhost :

  • Calendars/Contactcs : Radicale
  • Photos : Immich
  • Domotic : HomeAssistant

And time to time I use ReactiveResume when I need to actualise my resume.

My stack keeps growing, of course. Isn't that the way of the selfhoster? But so far, I've got it down to only ones I use every day. (Lesser-known ones are linked.)
