Is it possible to update the Monero consensus mechanism to reject PoW from non-p2pool miners? This would solve 51% attacks and make p2pool the only way to mine in a pool. This would be a huge fork, I know, but potentially good for the network. Or would the risk of destroying the network hash rate be too great? What privacy effects would this have? I'd also be concerned about losing the ability to solo mine. Apparently there was some research being done on this, but the last update was from a couple years ago. Does this idea still hold water in 2025? Would like to gather some opinions. Here's some other past research: |
