Adrian Tchaikovsky has entered the chat...

If you are unfamiliar with him, he's a fantasy/science fiction writer who has two multi-book series going, as well as a host of stand alone doorstoppers.

Read the synopsis of some of his stuff, it seems that he’s right up my alley. What’s a recommended first read for a Malazan and Cosmere guy?

I'll give you a list of first books of the series.

'Shards of the Earth' Ragged band of misfits teams up to scavenge the spaceways in the aftermath of a cosmic invasion. [Final Architecture series]

'Children of Time' A dying Earth has sent out colonizing ships in hopes of finding and terraforming new worlds. When the original plan falls apart, a strange new life form emerges. [Children of Time]

'City of Last Chances' Fantasy. The last worshipper of a forgotten god carries a temple on his back and performs miracles for scrapes of bread. An invading army has taken over the city and wises to destroy anything even remotely unscientific. [The Tyrant Philosophers]
