A screenshot of a Legal Eagle YouTube video as shown in the Android app PipePipe, which is failing to continue with playback due to an error message, "YouTube forces us to wait two seconds before continuing playback."

The video stopped playing back and then kept oscillating continuously between saying that "YouTube forces us to wait for ('two seconds' or 'one second') before continuing playback." After the "one second" notice, it goes back to two seconds and it keeps oscillating forever. This is the first time I've ever seen this notice and am wondering who else here may have been experiencing this recently.

I've been having this for a fair few days now. I don't have the same issue with NewPipe so have been using that till this gets fixed. It's been reported here #2761

I don't use PipePipe, but FreeTube. Since YouTube updated their system to use SABR (I don't even know what exactly that is, I just know it causes issues for us), I get sometimes a reload loop for some videos. In some cases my IP is blocked. Only a VPN helps in those cases. This plagues me / us for weeks and months. I'm surprised you didn't encounter this issue earlier; probably because the developers of the app you are using did a good job.

GrayJay is what I usually use. It's working currently.

Could be related to this issue.

I can corroborate that when I turn off my custom DNS it works swimmingly, until YouTube figured out to block my IP again.

I actually don't even know how to use a custom DNS, haha, but it's good that you were at least able to pinpoint the issue!

Aw geez, wish I can help more. But IMO the dev is very aware of this. IIRC when 5.2.4, this current latest version, dropped, I remember seeing in-app popup pointing to that GitHub issue that the dev opened.

Been happening to me a lot just now. The debug app had a message recommending to enable "Share Visitor Data" under Advanced Settings, but I haven't tried it.

Same issue here. Switching between mobile and wi-fi seems to work sometimes

I just tried changing the extraction point to "android vr", that seems to get rid of the counter entirely. Videos just play normally now

That's why I had been using it, indeed!

I have the same experience. Also killing the app and clearing cache sometimes works.

Oh, okay, at least it's being addressed. Thanks.

Pipepipe asks for fewer permissions and has more services by default. Another user got me to switch recently.

GrayJay is not fully open-source, from what I recall reading. Anyway, it seems to be back up again. Ever the game of cat & mouse...

Yeah FUTO uses a "source first" model of licensing that isn't fully FOSS. It does mean all the source code is available to everyone. But it is only for non-commercial use even of derivative works. And a few other limitations that violate some of the tenants of FOSS. Personally, I don't see a major issue as long as the company remains as it is. The issue with this kind of thing is a lot of time these nonprofits get acquired, consensually or hostilely, and the new company revokes some things and makes it all proprietary and then sues everyone for profit. Or other really shady things can happen if licenses aren't open enough. Of course the flip side is that big corporations rarely obey copyleft licenses or other things, especially now that LLMs do the stealing of code for them.

So, for now GrayJay and some other FUTO apps are sufficiently open and free for me, but that could change.
