As a trans-woman in my late 40s who fully socially transitioned only a few years ago, I see it a little differently. Masking as male left me hating the limited styles and clothes shopping in general. It's just so boring and restrictive on what you can wear and not look "wrong" or whatever, even if it often was more comfortable outside of really formal wear.

For me, I feel freedom to experiment and wear many different types of clothes, now. Sure in some circumstances I do pressure myself to "pass", especially more formal stuff. But I was doing that my whole life pretending to be a man, so I enjoy the ability to wear other things. I love skirts for their feeling of freedom. I like that I can express myself with makeup, though I do sometimes resent the pressure to wear it or appear "less feminine".

So, for me at least, I appreciate the ability the express myself more uniquely with my appearance, even if sometimes it does feel too mandated. But, I'm also fortunate to live in a city where casually dressed women is not too uncommon. So, I'm sure in places where that's less accepted, I might end up really hating it.
