How long can freshly prepared nutrient solution be kept? I've noticed that after a week or so a slimy film floats on the water but I don't think that is too bad.

Can the shelf life be increased? I use a Dutch Bucket setup so the excess nutrient from the plant flows back into the tank.

Would a UV-C lamp and air bubbling help?
