I can't believe I didn't do this before but WOW. I have a pretty high end laptop (i9, 4070 etc.) and somehow windows would STILL have jitters every now and then (even on AC power). This is aside from the fact that there were just so many popups, ads, long boot up times, horrible snappiness, high RAM usage, spyware etc. And the battery performance was abhorrent. The system felt like it aged 20 years when it's on battery with all the bloat. All the frustration built up over the last 5-6 months and I finally gave in and dual booted Fedora KDE 44 and dear god, it is good. The battery life is a bit worse (6.5 hours on windows vs 5.5 hours on fedora without any tweaks) but the overall system just... works. It's beautiful, works so efficiently, the fans never spin up, the system doesn't heat up anymore. There's no lag, it's snappy, responsive and tbh I like the look here a lot more given i can just customize it. even on battery the performance is just as snappy as on AC power. I was genuinely shocked on how every peripheral I used to use just works out of the box on my laptop. No drivers were needed for my monitor, keyboards, wifi, bluetooth, display, mouse etc. System hasn't crashed on me yet either so seems promising. Anyways, gonna preach fedora to everyone I know from now. Probably going to dual boot fedora on my girlfriend's laptop sometime soon too. |
