Six people who were highly allergic to peanuts can tolerate the nut after receiving a faecal transplant, reports a study published on 5 August in Science Translational Medicine.

The small trial1 of 15 people is the first evidence that faecal transplants — the transfer of gut bacteria harvested from the stool samples of healthy donors — can treat a food allergy. “Up until now, it’s been in mouse models. Now we have people. And that’s exciting,” says Cathryn Nagler, an immunology researcher at the University of Chicago in Illinois.

Eat shit and live!

Seriously though, this is great news. I’ve heard of this before but it’s nice to see human results in action. I hope this can help Celiacs too.

Very cool. The article says that some were able to eat up to 200mg of peanuts and some up to 500mg, so it's not like it fixes the allergy necessarily. Still, even if it just buys someone with peanut allergies a better chance to avoid anaphylactic reactions for the smallest amount of peanut dust it'll be worth it. Nut allergies are no joke, and EpiPens are expensive in America.
