Just noticed the decline in the number of episodes per season in HBO one hour dramas. Especially since Succession Season 4 aired exactly 3 years ago now and there hasn't been a HBO drama since then to have 10 episodes per season.

Every HBO drama since then which aired a season has had 8 episodes or less like Euphoria, The Last of Us, White Lotus, House of the Dragon, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Industry, Gilded Age etc.

The Pitt is obviously the big exception however it is on HBO Max rather than HBO original and it was very deliberately made to emulate a network hospital drama like E.R. than the model of a traditional HBO drama.

And this shift to 8 episodes or less per season has really hurt House of the Dragon or Last of Us
