This is an automated archive made by the Lemmit Bot.The original was posted on /r/piracy by /u/yoter88 on 2026-08-10 16:57:39+00:00. this isn’t exactly the place for this but I need to discuss this with someone. While I am a young zoomer I have a love for vintage media, like VHS’s and Cassettes. what is strange to me is the cultural shift on how media is recorded and shared. what I mean by this is the existence of technologies like blank videotapes, cassettes, dual tape decks, etc. All technology which allows for the recording of licensed media. During the videotape wars, VHS proudly advertised it’s ability to record the entirety of the superbowl, and more advanced cassette players had the ability to adjust the fade out time so that you didn’t record the radio announcer voice. All of this is to say, when did the shift occur that it suddenly became verboten to record media like this? Was it the rise of the internet? Something else? Its such a strange phenomenon to me, and I rarely see it talked about online. thanks! |
