We hear a lot about echo chambers, usually as something being done to us. Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms learn what we like, then give us more of it. Before long, the algorithm has surrounded us with people who see the world pretty much the way we do.

But that's only half the story.

We help.

But great for your mental health. Go ahead, delete those "socials".

Sure, there are plenty of times when it's healthy to curate your digital life. The article is more about how disagreement is great for our mental health.

Why do I think the dude who wrote this is a know-it-all "reply guy" on every topic imaginable, and he's frustrated nobody responds to him.

Reply guys make the dumbest, most obvious jokes that add nothing to the conversation. The examples in the article are argumentative and debate-seeking, and aren't framed in a positive light.

The main problem is that people tend to go apeshit online. Having "reasonable disagreement" online is a lot harder than when you're face to face with someone. Not being physically present makes it harder for us to connect and contain our own toxicity.

So, the echo chamber is more of a side effect of a deeper root problem.
