Coworker left our company and contacted me about a position at the new place he thought I was a shoe-in for. When I walked through the job it looked promising until they told me I was to get trained by the current employee and after being getting comfortable on the job, I was to fire him.

Turned it down because if they could do this to him, they'd do it to me.

A couple months later we had a block party where I met some neighbors for the first time (we had only been there 6 months). Met a nice older guy who I found out worked at the plant I interviewed at. I didn't tell him about the interview yet but putting 2 and 2 together realized this was the guy I was supposed to fire. When he told me he was putting in his papers for retirement I kept my mouth shut about the interview there.

In less than one year after his retirement he passed away from cancer which he had been unaware of until too late.

Had I taken that job, I would have felt like a creep but that's who they were looking for.
