I work remotely with the team of eight women. For holidays we all request off what we want, if someone had it off last year they don't get it this year and we all compromise. This year one of our co-workers was allowed to take every other Friday off during the entire summer. Makes it extremely difficult for the rest of us to have a full week off or to even have a 3-day weekend. Also, we are not allowed to have two people off at the same time. We have a calendar that lists everyones days off, or if they're leaving early etc. If we see a day that no one has off we can put in for it.

Our work is not essential, there's no time frame for it, and we rarely get offered over time no matter how behind we may think we are.

So this upcoming year my boss is now making us ask permission of every single team member if it's okay that we take a certain day or week off. So hypothetically speaking if I just want any day off, no matter how far in advance it is, I have to ask my team's permission for that day off.

I've looked it up and from what I found they cannot ask details if it's medical, but the boss and/or my coworkers can legitimately ask why I want the day off to determine if it's important enough that I can have that day off.

I've been with this company for 10 years, and I earn roughly 3 days off a month.

So needless to say I'm probably going to be calling in sick more than requesting a day off. And if I want an entire week off I guess I'll have to fake a nervous breakdown or something medical...
