I’m an RN in a pediatric ER. I’ve been a nurse 2.5 years. The burnout has been building but over the past few months it is hitting me hard and fast. I’m not in a mental place to be a good nurse. I genuinely do not think I can do it anymore. I’ve been crying before shifts for months due to the stress, trauma, and dysregulation of nightshift.

We are “self-schedule” but they constantly change my schedule as they see fit and I have no say. People are entitled and rude and we have to suck up to them because apparently hospitals are 5 star resorts now and we need those great satisfaction scores. I am not protected by my workplace. A few weeks ago a nurse got punched in the face, but of course, we have to cater to the patient and his mothers upset.

I have been trying to get dayshift but have not been selected yet due to seniority. I asked months ago to go part time and they said no.

I just can’t do it. I feel like I’m going to snap. But I’m scared to quit no notice and burn the bridge.
